Jelena Pasic, a New York City transplant from Croatia, and Harlem resident DarDra Coaxum founded this old-fashioned burger shop, which opened in 2013 at West 124th Street and Malcolm X Boulevard in central Harlem.

Harlem Shake, named after the dance created by Al B. (Albert Boyce), features an homage-to-Harlem atmosphere and a menu designed by chef and food writer J. Kenji López-Alt. The menu includes burgers made with meat from Pat LaFrieda, all-beef hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, grilled cheese sandwiches and melts, and shakes made with Blue Marble ice cream.

Harlem Shake later expanded with a location in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Franchisees Shakawat and Amrin Hossain have signed on to open a location in Philadelphia, and Pasic said they are scouting University City for a site.
